The Drake Center’s Human Animal Bond Blog

The purpose of this new blog is to celebrate together the amazing bond between humans and animals. We hope to include personal stories, scientific studies and anecdotes which help relate the huge impact that animals have on human health. We invite and encourage you to share your own stories of what animals have meant to you.

Through the years in speaking with clients, friends and acquaintances about their pets, we have found that everyone has an animal that has touched them very deeply and in fact, as they speak, the emotion and impact is still fresh and still strong, no matter how long ago the pet was with them. Animals are certainly different things to different people. To some people they are companions and friends.  To others, they take on the role of children, care givers, teachers or therapists. Whatever the particular role, we can say that they are intricately woven into our lives and for many of us it would be unthinkable, unimaginable for it to be any other way.

We will be pulling in articles from different sources including The American Association of Human Animal Bond Veterinarians, The Delta Society, The Argus Institute at Colorado State University, Center for the Human Animal Bond at Purdue University and American Animal Hospital Association. We will be sharing current news articles as well as our personal stories and we invite you to share your own ideas and stories.

We hope this blog will be a vehicle to help share this bond together and to deepen and broaden the idea that humans and animals are in this life together for the betterment of each.
