Who likes pictures?

Wednesday, June 30th, 2010

You may notice my new picture on my blog.  If you even knew what I had to put up with to have that picture taken, you would call the ASPCA and report cat abuse.  I had my morning routine interrupted not once but several times.  First, I had to be in a group picture with all the staff for the Drake Center.  Then Cody the photographer was trying to get me to smile and not have my usual cranky irritated cat face.  Well, I do not smile and I certainly do not behave unless you get the treats out.  Eventually, Dr. Drake got out the greenies and while I did not smile, I did cooperate for about 10 seconds.   A word of advice to all you cats out there having your pictures taken and videos for youtube, make sure you get paid for your time – either in cash or fresh fish.  Do not perform for anything less.  I hope you all enjoy my new blog picture and be sure to check out my photos on Facebook.  I am very photogenic.  I should have been a model but I do not like to travel.   Enjoy!

Tender Loving Canines Assistance Dogs

We have a new friend at The Drake Center; a group called Tender Loving Canines which trains assistance dogs. The Drake Center is helping to support one of the dogs, a 5 1/2 month old Golden retriever puppy named Duke. Duke’s trainer, Dearing, brought him to our last staff meeting and we all fell in love with this beautiful, mellow, well behaved boy. You can see his pictures on our Facebook page. We will follow his progress through 1 1/2 years of training with Dearing, then 6 months of training with Duke’s new family. Tender Loving Canines is an all volunteer organization here in San Diego. Their website is www.tenderlovingcanines.org and it showcases the organization and goes through some stories of dogs that have been placed with their families. The front page of the website contains a story about an 11 year old boy with cerebral palsy and two children with autism. I am always so amazed and touched by these stories and the tremendous value in incorporating animals in human healing.  So much goes into training and integrating the dogs with their families. TLCAD stays involved with the training and recertification of their dogs for the remainder of the dogs lifetime once they are placed in a home.  Please take a few moments to check out their website. Donations are always welcome and appreciated. We are so proud to be playing a small part in Duke’s life.
